Congress holds protest march, demands dismissal of the State government

The Uttarakhand Congress organised a march to the Raj Bhawan on Tuesday to register its protest on the deteriorating law and order situation in the State. The party demanded immediate dismissal of the State government. Large number of Congress party workers assembled at the headquarters of the State unit at Rajpur road on Tuesday and then proceeded towards Raj Bhawan. 

Raising vociferous slogans and demanding resignation of the State government, the Congress workers marched towards the Raj Bhawan. The Police stopped the march near Hathi Barkala. Many Congress leaders including Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara tried to scale the barricades of Police amid heated verbal duel with the law enforcers.  

The PCC president said that the BJP government has proved to be a failure on all fronts. He said that the cases of rapes and crime against women have increased and in most of the cases the leaders and functionaries of BJP are involved. Mahara said that in the recent Panchayat elections, the BJP in collusion with the anti-social elements engaged in loot of votes. He said that the disaster management system of the State has proven to be a complete failure even as the natural disasters are affecting the State.

 Mahara said that the State government has lost the faith of the people and the Congress workers demand that the governor should dismiss the BJP government.

The leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya said that the BJP government has failed to address issues such as maintaining law and order, providing health services and employment. The people of the State had given mandate to BJP for two consecutive times but the BJP government has failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people. He said that the BJP government has lost the right to remain in power.

 In his unique style, the former minister Harak Singh Rawat exhorted the Congress workers to throw BJP out of power.

Former PCC president Pritam Singh said that the law and order situation in the State is at its worst and recent incidents have rendered a sense of insecurity in people.

At Hathibarkala the Congress leaders courted arrest after which they were taken to Police Lines from where they were released. 

MLAs, Bhuwan Kapdi, Furkan Ahmed, Harish Dhami, Mamta Rakesh, Virendra Jati, Sumit Hridayesh, Ravi Bahadur, former minister Hira Singh Bisht, Jot Singh Gunsola, Surveer Singh Sajwan, Rajkumar, vice president Suryakant Dhasmana, Jaswinder Singh, Jyoti Rautela, Garima Dasauni, Vikas Negi and others participated in the protest.
