The Transport department issued challans to 36 Vikram vehicles, of which 21 were impounded for non-compliance with regulations in the Dehradun District. The regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Anita Chamola said that the said action follows Uttarakhand High Court orders to modify seating capacity in these vehicles, specifically removing the driver’s adjacent seat. The enforcement drive was conducted under the direction of the Secretary, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Dehradun, she said.
Chamola said that the drive led by the assistant regional transport officers (Enforcement), Pankaj Srivastava in Dehradun and Rashmi Pant in Rishikesh, resulted in the issuance of challans for 36 Vikram vehicles, with 21 being impounded for not adhering to the rules.
She further added that the Vikram Union has also been consulted on this matter and instructed to modify their vehicles according to the regulations. They are required to have these changes inspected by a technical officer and to update the registration book and permit accordingly. Vehicle owners have also been told to make the necessary modifications to their vehicles immediately, she said.
“ This campaign will continue, and further action will be taken against Vikram vehicles that do not comply with the regulations,” said Chamola.
