In a major crackdown, Haridwar police busted the network of the notorious Magadha Cyber Gang, linked to Nalanda-Nawada in Bihar and arrested five fraudsters. During a car check, Kotwali Shyampur police recovered a large quantity of materials and cyber devices, including 35 ATM cards, 14 bank passbooks, 17 SIM cards, 18 mobile phones and two laptops. Initial investigations have revealed clues to digital transactions worth over Rs 2.75 crore.
Sharing details, the SSP Navneet Singh said that acting on tip- offs that some cyber criminals were travelling in a car, police launched a checking operation in the Sajjanpur Peeli area on Tuesday night, “The car, coming from Chidiyapur, was stopped at Rasiyabad and searched. The five occupants were found with 35 ATM cards, 14 bank passbooks, 17 SIM cards, 18 mobile phones, two laptops, a laptop charger, 10 ATM covers, a PAN card and Rs 37,500 in cash. The chats, bank accounts and QR codes on the recovered mobile phones revealed suspicious transactions,” he added.
Police sources further said that the accused had received cyber fraud proceeds into mule accounts, transferred them through UPI and other accounts and then withdrawn cash from ATMs. The police are investigating the KYC and transaction history of the bank accounts.
The arrested accused included Krishna Pandey from Nalanda; Niranjan Kumar from Nawada; Sunny from Haridwar; Chandramani Kumar from Nawada and Chandan Pandey from Haridwar
