D A V College marks ‘World Autism Awareness Day’ with a message of sensitivity

D AV College, Dehradun organised an awareness and academic programme on the theme “Autism and Humanity: Every Life Matters” on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day–2026. The programme featured a multidisciplinary expert discourse covering the clinical, psychological, educational and social dimensions of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the college sources said. The founder, Shine AVI Learning, USA, Anita Sharma Thapliyal, in her lecture on “Recognising Autism and Supporting Individuals in Everyday Life,” highlighted early identification of autism, behavioural indicators, sensory challenges and the need for family-and community-based support systems. She also emphasised strategies for inclusive education and life-skill development.
In his expert lecture, Colonel Sudeep Azad presented a scientific and structured discussion on the clinical profiling of ASD, early warning signs (early red flags), diagnostic protocols and evidence-based interventions.
A cultural performance by Yashasvi Joshi, an individual with autism, creatively expressed the message of inclusivity through a dance performance.
The programme formally commenced with the welcome address by the principal of the college, Prof Kaushal Kumar, who highlighted the role of higher education institutions in building an inclusive campus ecosystem, calling it a necessity of the present time.
On this occasion, the principal of D B S (PG) College, Dehradun, Anil Pal, along with several academicians, were present. Over 250 faculty members, staff, researchers and students attended the programme.
