Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal directed officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to ensure prompt and effective resolution of issues raised by councillors, warning that any negligence in addressing public grievances will not be tolerated.
Chairing a review meeting at the MCD office, the mayor said that councillors play a crucial role in highlighting ground-level problems and their concerns must be addressed on priority. He instructed the officials to maintain regular communication with elected representatives and ensure that no complaint remains pending for long. To strengthen coordination, Thapliyal directed the IT cell to reactivate the corporation’s WhatsApp group and update it with the latest contact details of all councillors. He stated that the digital platform should be used effectively for real-time communication, sharing updates and quick resolution of issues.
Emphasising better event management, the mayor directed officials to organise all municipal programmes in a well-planned, time-bound and systematic manner. He stressed that councillors must be informed in advance and their participation ensured in every official programme. He also asked officials to make proper logistical arrangements and avoid last-minute lapses. Further, Thapliyal instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive report on development works carried out across all wards. The report should include details of ongoing and completed projects, expenditure and timelines, so that progress can be reviewed and plans can be made more effectively.
Highlighting accountability and transparency, the mayor said that maintaining openness in development works is a key responsibility of the MCD. He added that strict monitoring will be carried out and any laxity in public service delivery will invite action. The mayor’s instructions come a few days after some councillors accused the MCD administration of apathy. Senior municipal officials were also present in the meeting.
