MCD intensifies property tax drive, 38 new properties brought under tax net

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has identified 38 properties that were earlier outside the property tax net during a recent verification drive carried out in several wards in the city.

The officials stated that a total of 162 properties were physically verified as part of the ward-level inspection exercise conducted on the directions of municipal commissioner Namami Bansal. Following the verification, notices have been issued to the property owners concerned asking them to deposit the applicable building tax within the prescribed time, they said.

The civic body said that it also recorded property tax collections of Rs 52.08 lakh in a single day during the ongoing drive.

They added that the verification exercise was aimed at identifying properties that had either not been assessed earlier or were not included in the municipal tax records despite being eligible for taxation. Such inspections are being carried out in phases across different wards.

The officials said that similar verification work will continue in other parts of the city in the coming days. The exercise is expected to help bring additional properties under the tax net and improve compliance among property owners who have not yet deposited their dues.

The MCD said that it has also kept its office open on this Sunday to allow residents to deposit pending property taxes. A rebate of 20 per cent is currently being offered on payments made within the ongoing concession period. Officials added that interest will be charged on pending dues from April as per the prescribed rules.
