Dehradun police penalise 143 house owners for keeping unverified tenants

Dehradun police penalised 143 house owners a total of Rs 14.3 lakh on Sunday for not verifying their tenants. The police conducted verification drives across multiple police station areas, checking 825 individuals, including outsiders and tenants. During the drive, police brought 40 suspicious individuals to the police stations for questioning.

The officials informed that police collected Rs 10,000 in fines from 40 cases under Section 81 of the Police Act. The drives were carried out in Sahaspur area, including Rampur, Shankarpur, Sihiniwala and Dharmawala, Kotwali Patelnagar area, including Brahmpuri, Brahmmawala and Chamanpuri and Kotwali Nagar area, including Chowki Laxman Chowk, Gandhi Gram and other areas.

The officials informed that Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh has directed all police station in-charges to conduct regular verification drives for outsiders, tenants and suspicious individuals in their respective areas. They stated that the drives will continue across both urban and rural areas of the district to maintain records and monitor compliance with verification rules.

Such checking drives are expected to increase in coming days to ensure peace, law and order are maintained during the festival season.
