District hospital blood bank project hit by heavy rains this year

The intense and frequent rainfall experienced earlier this year have caused delays in completing the construction of the blood bank at Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital, according to the principal medical superintendent Dr Manu Jain. In response to an order from the district magistrate, the hospital administration had submitted a proposal for the blood bank to the State administration, which has recently received approval. Further, officials had previously announced that the State administration has awarded a contract to Peyjal Nigam for the blood bank’s construction. At present, work on the blood bank at the hospital is underway, although it was initially anticipated that it would be completed by this time, but that timeline has now been pushed forward.
Jain informed that the establishment of the blood bank has faced delays. He said that this year’s monsoon season was marked by heavy and frequent rainfall, which has posed significant challenges for labourers working on the construction. The weather conditions occasionally hindered progress. Nevertheless, construction is now proceeding regularly and 90 per cent of the work has been completed. It is anticipated that the blood bank will be fully constructed by November 30, he said.
He further informed that as the construction of the blood bank approaches completion, the hospital administration has requested a budget from the director general of Health to purchase the necessary equipment for the facility.
He emphasised that after the purchase of equipment, they will apply for a blood bank licence from the concerned authorities. He informed that the blood bank is being constructed over two floors.
Earlier, Jain informed that the operational blood bank at the hospital will address numerous issues, such as ensuring timely access to blood during major surgeries, emergency situations and childbirth.
