Doon woman defrauded of over Rs one lakh in online scam

A resident of Dehradun has been allegedly cheated of Rs 1,06,810 in an online scam. The victim, Sadhana Sharma reported that on January 9, she received a call on her mobile phone from a person claiming to be from the Election Commission. The caller identified himself as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) and asked her about her work. She said that the caller then sent her a device access code, asking her to share it. Believing the caller, she shared the code.
Soon after, her SIM card stopped working and she later discovered that unknown fraudsters had withdrawn the money from her bank account in multiple transactions between January 15 and 17.
Police said that the scammers used the SIM to gain access to the account and stole the money while pretending to be Election Commission officials. A formal complaint has been filed at Raipur Police Station, Dehradun, and the Cyber Crime Police have started investigating the case.
