PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Accusing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of undue harassment on the directions of the government, senior Congress party leader Harak Singh Rawat has said that he will leave politics and retire from public life if even one per cent of the charges levelled on him by the Central agency are found true.

Rawat made this announcement while addressing a Press conference here on Saturday. On Friday, the ED had filed a chargesheet against Rawat, his wife and some others in a money laundering case related to a piece of land in Sahaspur area of Dehradun. Sharing details of the land deal in question, the Congress leader claimed that most of the land in question was vested in the government under the Zamindari Abolition Act and only 20 hectares of land out of total 3,785 bighas of land purchased in 1949 by Sushila Rani was left with her.  Regarding the court orders and other details, Rawat claimed that he had done nothing wrong in purchasing a piece of 8.2089 hectares of land.  He said that if someone purchases any land he usually goes through 12 years of revenue records.

Rawat claimed that the ED officials had also privately admitted that he had been wrongly framed in the case. He challenged the ED officers to prove the charges in the court of law. The Congress leader further claimed that in the last few years the ED had filed cases against 198 leaders including members of parliament and others but has succeeded in convicting only two of them. The success rate of the ED is less than 0.46 per cent which shows the working style of the Central agency.  Rawat also became emotional while addressing the media, stating he has been mentally harassed by the ED for the past one year.

Harak Singh Rawat will emerge clean: Dhasmana

 PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Suryakant Dhasmana alleged that the BJP is using Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax (IT) to silence the voice of its political opponents. He said that the chargesheet filed by ED against Harak Singh Rawat, his wife and three others in a money laundering case is part of the conspiracy to silence the opposition’s voice. Dhasmana said that Rawat has remained with BJP for a long period of time and during that period no action was initiated against him.  He questioned if such action would have been taken against him had he been in BJP, adding that Rawat will emerge clean in the case as he has done nothing wrong.
