FDA made significant achievements in 2025: Kumar

The Food Safety and Drugs Administration (FDA) department undertook significant actions across the State during 2025, officials said. It collected 28,144 kilogrammes of used cooking from different parts of the State under its Repurpose of Used Cooking Oil campaign in the year 2025. This oil was sent to the CSIR-IIP and other institutes with the help of aggregators for biodiesel synthesis. The department also conducted 17 workshops in different parts of the State under the campaign to create awareness on the issue.
Under the Eat Right Movement, seven district and sub district jails were developed as Eat Right Campus. Similarly, the secretariat building, UPES and CFTRI building Dehradun were declared as Eat Right Campus. The railway stations of Dehradun, Roorkee, Haridwar and Rishikesh were developed as Eat Right Stations.
The department collected 3,122 samples of food products from different parts of the State in its campaign against adulteration under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 in the year 2025. Out of them 223 samples were found to be unsafe by the food testing labs of the department. After the legal proceedings, a penalty of Rs 3.31 crore was imposed on the offenders.
The department officials informed that new 18 drug inspectors were appointed on the vacant posts this year which has strengthened the drug control system of the department. To prevent drug trafficking, the department set up a quick response team (QRT) which conducted 1,445 inspections in the month of June this year and collected 1,445 drug samples. Under the special campaign to check the quality of the cough syrups, the department collected 494 samples from different parts of the State.
The FDA commissioner R Rajesh Kumar said that the department made significant achievements in the year 2025 in food safety, quality of drugs, prevention of adulteration and drug trafficking. He said that the department conducted various public awareness programmes on different aspects of Food safety in different parts of the State.
