A woman from Dehradun allegedly lost nearly Rs six lakh after falling victim to an AI-based cyber fraud. The fraudster threatened the woman that if she did not pay the money he would make AI-generated photos and videos of her viral on social media.

According to the complaint, the woman first received a call from a person claiming to deliver a parcel. The caller asked her to transfer Rs 12,000 through an online platform. After receiving the money, the fraudster allegedly started demanding more payments. He demanded Rs six lakh and threatened to make AI-generated photos and videos of the woman viral on social media if she did not continue sending money.

Fearing that the fake content would be circulated online, the woman kept transferring money to different accounts and bank accounts. To arrange the money, she secretly sold the jewellery kept at her home without informing her family. In total, she allegedly transferred around Rs six lakh to the fraudsters.

The incident came to light when her husband noticed that the jewellery was missing and asked her about it. She then revealed the entire incident. Based on the complaint filed by the victim, police have filed an FIR and started an investigation into the cyber fraud case and are trying to identify the people involved.
