GDMC administration introduces measures to prevent nuisance

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Following the disturbance that occurred on Sunday night at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) PG hostel, the administration has implemented strict measures in response. It is important to mention that in the wee hours of Sunday, commotion erupted at the GDMC PG hostel when several PG students purportedly began dancing to loud DJ music, causing disruption to other students and nearby residents. In response, the security guard requested that the students cease their activities, but their request was ignored.
Consequently, the security guard contacted the control room, which subsequently notified the city police station. The police arrived promptly, at which point some PG students reportedly engaged in confrontations with the officers.
In response to the issue, the principal of GDMC Dr Geeta Jain expressed her dissatisfaction and formed a five-member committee to investigate the situation and implement actions based on their findings. The deputy medical superintendent of GDMC Hospital Dr NS Bisht is a member of the committee.
Commenting on the GDMC administration’s response to the matter, Bisht said that the loud DJ music played at night in the hostel and the restriction on entry to the premises were significant concerns. He stated that the committee conducted a thorough investigation, leading to the decision to take strict measures against those involved.
As a result, the postgraduate students who hosted the party were expelled from the hostel and fined Rs 10,000. Additionally, other students present at the event received warnings and were fined Rs 5,000 each. He also said that although a guard commander was assigned to duty during that time, it was discovered that he was not present.
Taking this into account, the guard commander has been demoted from their position and will now be regarded as a security guard, assigned to a different location within the hospital, he said.
