Governor lieutenant general ( retd) Gurmit Singh launched the ‘Pragyanam’ AI chatbot developed by Shri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University at Lok Bhawan on Wednesday.
The university claims that the chatbot is capable of providing quick, accurate and context-based answers to inquiries from seekers on topics related to the Indian knowledge system. It was developed based on research conducted by the University under the ‘One University-One Research’ initiative on the Indian knowledge tradition and on content presented at national and international conferences. The chatbot covers subjects such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, ancient Indian mathematics, Natyashastra, music, Ayurveda, philosophy, and Indian science.
In his address, the governor said that India’s rich knowledge tradition, embodied in the Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, and ancient civilization, remains highly relevant even today. He added that through platforms like ‘Pragyaanam’, this invaluable knowledge, combined with modern 21st century technology, can be effectively conveyed to the new generation. He added that the chatbot will not only address queries but also provide research-based and authentic information, introducing users to the depth of Indian knowledge.
Praising the efforts of the university, the governor said that this chatbot is the result of a year of intensive research.
The Governor said that today’s younger generation is increasingly connected with technology, and therefore, ‘Pragyanam’ will be an effective medium to connect them with their roots, culture and spiritual heritage.
The Higher Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat congratulated the university for the chatbot and said that students, researchers and the general public from India and abroad will be able to easily access the Indian knowledge tradition through digital means.
The vice chancellor of the university NK Joshi gave a detailed presentation of the chatbot and shared information about its functionality and utility. The secretary to the governor Ravinath Raman and others were present on the occasion.
