Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has accused the State government for being insensitive and apathetic to the problem of human-wildlife conflict in the mountainous areas of the State. The PCC president visited Bhatkot hamlet of Timli village of Pokhra block in Pauri district on Saturday where a four year girl was killed by a leopard on Friday.
He said that the Congress party has been consistently warning the Forest department and State government about the attacks of wild animals on the people in the mountainous areas of the State but its appeal has fallen on deaf ears. Godiyal said that incidents of such attacks are increasing consistently. He said that many innocent lives have been lost in these attacks but the Forest department and the State government have not taken any preventive measures.
Godiyal said that an atmosphere of fear prevails in the mountainous areas due to callousness of the government. He warned the Congress party will be forced to start a state-wide agitation if the government fails to take effective measures on the issue soon. The PCC president demanded that the government should provide adequate compensation to the affected family without any delay.
He assured the grieving family members that their voice and concern will be effectively put up before the authorities concerned and every possible effort will be made to bring justice to them. Congress leader Kavindra Istwal and other leaders accompanied Godiyal.
