PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of spreading canard on the Women reservation amendment bill which got rejected in Lok Sabha on Friday, the Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal has said that instead of implementing women reservation, the new bill was associated with increasing the number of seats in Parliament. He said that the BJP is blaming the Congress but the fact is that the basic law on the Women reservation was passed by the parliament in the year 2023 itself. “Congress party objected to increasing the number of seats without any concrete reason. The women can be given 33 per cent reservation in the existing number of seats,’’ he said. The PCC president added that the BJP intends to mislead women on the issue for political gain. He said that the government should take concrete steps for women empowerment.
Former PCC president and member of the Congress Working Committee Karan Mahara said that the BJP has betrayed the women of the country and it is now trying to weave a web of lies and confusion on the issue. He said that the Congress party has always remained a strong advocate of women reservation in the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabhas. Mahara added that the party had fully supported the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in the year 2023.
He said that instead of implementing the historic law, the BJP has adopted a strategy to entangle women reservation with census and delimitation in order to delay it. Mahara said that the BJP is trying to use the women reservation bill as an election tool. He said that the BJP is trying to portray the recent constitution amendment bill related to delimitation of seats as if the opposition parties are against the women reservation. “The Congress party is in favour of immediate implementation of women reservation so that the women of the country get their constitutional right without any delay,’’ ’he said.
