PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Nainital
The air quality in Nainital has started to improve following the Deepawali celebrations. The pollution in the air had increased threefold before the festival and the fireworks on the occasion increased the pollution levels fourfold. The particulate matter (PM 2.5) was measured between 34 and 39 microgramme per cubic metre. The air quality is expected to improve further in the coming days. Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) senior scientist Narendra Singh said that the PM 2.5 is nearing normal levels in the city. The slight rise in the wind activity has also helped disperse the air pollution here. Hen further said that if the weather remains the same, the PM 2.5 levels will reach the normal value of 25 in the next two to three days. However, the drop in temperature may result in a rise in air pollution, he added. Meanwhile, the city witnessed pleasant weather on Friday. According to the GIC meteorological centre, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded here on Friday were 24 degrees Celsius and 14 degrees Celsius respectively. The clear skies resulted in bright sunshine throughout the daytime.
