Congress claims credit for making CM order CBI probe, youth pressure also helped

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The Congress has claimed that the State government was forced to accept the demand of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) paper leak under pressure from the agitation of the students and the Congress party on the issue.

The Pradesh Congress Committee vice president  Suryakant Dhasmana said that right from beginning the Congress party was of the view that the State government should order a CBI inquiry monitored by a serving judge of the High Court in the UKSSSC paper leak case. He said that considering the sensitivity of the issue linked with the future of the youngsters, the Congress party stood firmly with the unemployed.

He said that the Congress held protests in all parts of the State. Dhasmana said that he himself was the first leader from the Congress party to visit the protest site of the unemployed at Parade Ground and extend full support of the party. He said that senior Congress leaders such as deputy leader of the Congress legislative party Bhuwan Kapdi, former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal, president of Mahila Congress Jyoti Rautela, MLAs Vikram Singh Negi and Lakhpat Butola visited the protest site at Parade Ground.

He said the BJP leaders who were defaming the unemployed by calling them urban naxals and anti-nationals should now tender an apology. Dhasmana demanded the chairperson of the UKSSSC Ganesh Martolia should be immediately dismissed.

He added that the government should immediately cancel the examination of UKSSSC held on September 21.

Dhasmana said that the Congress party is not satisfied with the CM’s announcement on the CBI inquiry. “One should recall that in the year 2017, the then CM Trivendra Singh Rawat had announced CBI inquiry in the NH-57 land acquisition and distribution of compensation scam but the CBI probe never  started in the case,’’ he said.

He said that though the CM has announced the CBI inquiry in the paper leak case, the Congress party will go ahead with its proposed protest march to the residence of CM on October 3.
