Delayed road-cutting permission affects sewer repair in Dehradun

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Delays in obtaining permission for road cutting have hindered the timely repair of the leaking sewer line in the Dilaram Bazaar area of Dehradun, the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan assistant engineer from south division Dehradun, Raghvendra Dobhal said. However, he claimed that the issue is expected to be resolved in a month.
Recently, a report indicated that residents in this area are increasingly worried about the dirty water leaking from the sewer chamber, which has caused significant inconvenience. The issue has persisted for nearly a year, leading to dissatisfaction among the community. Many residents have reported that the sewage waste from the leaking chamber has pooled outside their shops, resulting in unpleasant odours.
It is worth mentioning that according to sources, several residents have also raised concerns about the neglect of repairs to the old sewer line in some other areas of Dehradun as well, urging the authorities to act on this matter.
Regarding the State of the sewer lines at Dilaram Bazaar, Dobhal said that its true that the sewer systems in said area remain unrepaired, causing ongoing issues for residents due to frequent leaks. He clarified that this problem has not persisted for a full year; rather, it has arisen within the last 1.5 to two months.
The delays in addressing the repairs in these specific areas stem from holdups in receiving authorisation from the Public Works department for road excavation. He assured that efforts were being made regularly to resolve the matter. He informed that, considering this on November 26, the authorities granted permission for the necessary road cutting.
As a result of the conclusion, the project to repair the sewer lines in Dilaram Bazaar has begun. The sewer line will be repaired at Dilaram Bazaar. It is anticipated that this work will be completed within a month, he added.
Dobhal emphasised that, with time and their efforts, the sewer issues in other areas of Dehradun will also be addressed.
