Man loses Rs 1.29 L in UPI fraud after downloading fake RTO app

A case of cyber fraud has surfaced once again in Dehradun with a man losing Rs 1.29 lakh in the name of an RTO e-challan app. The complainant, Sandeep Kumar Kamboj, a resident of Officers Colony in Chandrabani, said that on February 9 and 13, small amounts of Rs one had been first debited from his bank accounts, followed by bigger transactions of Rs 29,700, Rs 95,000 and Rs 5,000.

He is said to have told police that he had received an APK file in the name of an RTO e-challan app. After he had downloaded the app on his phone, the fraudulent transactions had taken place. He filed an online complaint on the National Cyber Crime Portal and later submitted a written complaint to the Cyber Police Station.

Police have registered a Zero FIR and transferred the case to Patel Nagar police station for further investigation. The officers said that the matter is being investigated and efforts are being made to trace the unidentified accused and recover the lost money.
