Cooperative sector to strengthen rural economy, make State self-reliant: Rawat

Cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat inaugurated a two-day workshop Sahkar Manthan-2025 at Forest Research Institute (FRI) on Tuesday. The workshop is being organised to mark the International Year of Cooperatives-2025.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the cooperative sector has got a new energy and direction after the creation of a new ministry of Cooperatives in the year 2021.
Reiterating the commitment of his government to make Uttarakhand self-reliant with the help of cooperatives, the minister said that 370 Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (MPACS) will be strengthened in the State. He said that Sahkar Manthan should not remain limited to speeches. The objective should be to provide benefit to the last person standing on the social ladder by making cooperative committees as the backbone of the rural economy.
The minister said that Uttarakhand is the first State in the country which has started a system of transparent recruitment in the cooperative banks by the IBPS system.
He said that the objective of the workshop is to give new direction to the cooperative sector in the State and strengthen the rural economy.
In his presentation registrar of Cooperatives, Meharban Singh Bisht highlighted the need of IT and digitalisation. The chief general manager of NABARD Pankaj Tiwari expressed support of the NABARD to the cooperative sector.
The workshop was attended by Cooperative secretary BVRC Purushottam, officers of NABARD, dairy, banking sector and officers of union ministry of Cooperatives. Large number of representatives of cooperative societies and rural stakeholders attended the workshop.
