On the second day of the Harela fair being held at Ramlila Grounds in Bhimtal, cultural programmes and various competitions related to Uttarakhand’s folk culture were organised.
Earlier, while inaugurating the traditional Harela Mela, the Cabinet minister Ram Singh Kaira said that the fair in Bhimtal embodies a rich tradition dating back to ancient times and holds mythological and cultural significance. “This fair serves as a means of connecting people and preserving the state’s rich culture and heritage. The government will strive to make this fair even more comprehensive in the future,” he assured.
He further said that it is the people’s collective responsibility to preserve the culture, traditions and heritage the state is blessed with. “As Harela festival symbolises nature and greenery, everyone should plant as many trees as possible to protect the environment,” he said. He himself also planted a tree during the event.
Among those present during the inauguration was the municipal council president Seema Tamta.
