Dehradun district administration revokes licenses of Jan Aushadhi Kendra & medical store

In response to several complaints, the Dehradun district administration has revoked the licenses of both the Jan Aushadhi Kendra and an adjacent medical store owned by the same individual at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Raipur. District magistrate Savin Bansal informed that a complaint was submitted regarding the Prime Minister’s Jan Aushadhi Kendra during the Janta Darshan held on December 4, 2025. The complaint highlighted the unavailability of medicines at the Jan Aushadhi Kendra, as well as the fact that the operator of the centre also ran a nearby private medical store.

Following these complaints and on his instruction, joint magistrate Rahul Kumar and the senior drug inspector conducted an on-site investigation. They discovered several irregularities, including the operator of the Jan Aushadhi Kendra, Balveer Singh Rawat, running both the Kendra within the CHC and a private medical store—Rawat Medicos—approximately 25 metres away, which created a conflict of interest.

DM further informed that the official PMBI software was not used to ensure the availability of medicines at the Jan Aushadhi Kendra; instead, billing was done manually. The demand and supply of medicines were managed informally through WhatsApp, rather than through the mandated portal. Due to inadequate efforts to address the medicine shortages, patients had to purchase medications from private stores. Additionally, it was noted that stock registers and inventory maintenance were lacking, he said.

“ Discrepancies were also found in the documents submitted for license issuance and renewal. These included using a single refrigerator bill, incorrect declarations about the working condition of the air conditioner, and failing to upload an updated contract after the lease agreement had expired,” the DM said.
