Nabin’s welcome banners, hoardings raise safety concerns among commuters

The large banners, cut-outs and flags installed in different parts of the city to welcome BJP national president Nitin Nabin have sparked concerns from the citizens on road safety.
Some commuters raised concerns about the placement of these hoardings, particularly regarding visibility while driving. They warned that some of these displays, especially cut-outs, obstruct views and could pose risks if dislodged by strong winds, especially for two-wheelers and fast-moving vehicles. They urged authorities and organisers to ensure that such welcome displays are placed in safe locations, so the intention to greet leaders does not endanger commuter safety.
Commuter Naveen Chaudhary expressed his views about the recent welcome for the leader in Dehradun, noting that banners, posters, and cut-outs related to the parties had been installed. He said that while these cut-outs are meant for welcoming, they can become hazardous if strong winds cause them to fall onto the road, posing a risk for commuters. He emphasised the need for proper placement to avoid such accidents. “I experienced the risk first-hand on Friday while passing by. Due to the wind, a cut-out suddenly fell onto the road just as I was passing. My two-wheeler became unbalanced, and I managed to regain control to prevent a fall. These hoardings should be placed properly to avoid hazards and they should be removed as soon as the event ends, rather than left standing,” said another commuter, Suraj Uniyal.
Commuter Monica Srivastav also pointed out that apart from falling, improperly placed cut-outs at intersections obstruct visibility. Proper placement of these banners is crucial for safety.
