PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Doon National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirants have been left shocked and anxious after the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 over paper leak claims, with many students now facing fresh uncertainty after months of preparation.
The examination held on May 3 was scrapped following reports that “guess papers” circulating on social media matched a large number of questions in the actual paper.
An NEET aspirant, Atulya Patel said that the news had left him shell-shocked. “It has come at a time when the students were calculating expected scores and cut-offs. If there was a leak, cancelling the examination is understandable, but preparing again will be mentally exhausting,” he said, adding that uncertainty over the re-exam date is increasing stress.
Another student Shubham Chaudhary said that discussions around possible leaks had already been circulating online before the official announcement. “We were hearing about ‘guess papers’ on WhatsApp and Telegram. Such incidents make students question the fairness of the system,” he said, calling for strict action against those responsible.
Khushi Sharma, a NEET student, said that the cancellation has taken an emotional toll on students. “After months of preparation, many of us were relaxing when the news came. We are frustrated as we have to start once again, which is not easy,” she said. She added that students are now waiting for clarity on the re-exam schedule.
Teachers say that the impact goes beyond academics. Venting frustration, a teacher, Anil Joshi said that many students had already returned home after the exam, especially those from the hilly areas. “They will now have to come back again and restart preparation. It adds not just mental stress but financial burden too,” he said.
He added that if the re-examination is held soon, students will have to quickly return to revision mode. “They need to stay in touch with their studies and maintain consistency,” he said.
Joshi also stressed the need for accountability. “If strict action is not taken, such incidents will recur. There has to be accountability to restore trust in the system,” he noted.
