A Dehradun woman has alleged that a man she met through a matrimonial site cheated her of Rs 32 lakh by promising marriage and a nursing job. The woman, a nursing staff member at a private hospital, has lodged the complaint at Nehru Colony police station.
According to the complaint, the woman met Charu Chandra Joshi through a matrimonial site in June. He allegedly told her that he was working as a drug inspector at the DG health office in Dehradun and claimed to have contacts with senior officials. The two reportedly continued talking over phone calls and WhatsApp as they discussed marriage.
The woman alleged that Joshi later told her that he could help her get selected in a nursing examination. He allegedly claimed that Rs 32 lakh was required for the selection. He reportedly told her that part of the money would go to a government fund and part would be given to officials.
The complainant alleged that Joshi then sent her several QR codes and asked her to transfer money to different accounts. According to her complaint, she made multiple online payments between July 3 and August 1, including payments to accounts linked to names such as Devansh Sushil Tiwari, Mohan Chandra Mishra, SkillsKrill Info Solutions Pvt Ltd, Dheeraj Kumar Belwal, Pooja Chauhan, Tarun Kumar, Ganesh General Store and Vinod Nath.
She further alleged that she gave Rs 15 lakh in cash to Joshi after pledging her gold jewellery and using money saved for her marriage. The Nehru Colony police have registered an FIR in this matter and started the investigation.
