DM to seek more staff from WECD for day-care centre

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal will write to the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department to request additional staff for the day-care centre at Survey Chowk, which functions both as a modern Anganwadi and a day-care facility. The move comes in response to a shortage of staff and low attendance of children at the centre, as informed by officials during Bansal’s inspection on Tuesday.
The DM noted that the recruitment of Anganwadi workers is currently pending at the directorate level, which has affected the functioning of the centre. He stated that once staff appointments are made, more children will begin attending the centre. He also informed that as part of broader efforts to strengthen early childhood care, the district is upgrading 150 Anganwadi centres this year.
During his visit, Bansal instructed officials to modernise the Survey Chowk centre by adding smart TVs, digital and whiteboards, a library corner, comics, books and child-friendly furniture to promote both learning and engagement. He also approved budget support from the district plan on the spot for the necessary enhancements and directed the WECD department to prepare a comprehensive list of requirements for modernising the facility.
Emphasising the importance of trained staff, safety, cleanliness, nutritious meals and regular educational activities, Bansal said that upgraded centres will not only aid in child development but also support working mothers in managing their responsibilities.
