Rising road accidents, Police to tighten noose on drunk driving cases

Road accidents in Uttarakhand are rising at an alarming rate. Official data shows that seven districts of the State including provisional State capital Dehradun have reported more accidents, deaths and injuries this year compared to the previous year. Drunk driving and traffic jams remain major problems in the cities.

  Additional director general ( Law and Order), V Murugesan said that strict action will be taken against drunk driving cases, and manpower will be increased to better manage traffic across the State. The data shows that from January to September 2025, road accidents increased by 4.42 per cent. The number of deaths rose by 19.09 per cent, while the number of injured people went up by nearly 40 per cent.

   Speaking on the issue, Murugesan said that police manpower has been increased to control traffic. The police are also focusing on the cases of drunk driving. He said that strict action will be taken against anyone caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
