Drivers of Smart City electric buses in the provisional State capital continued their work boycott on Wednesday due to unfulfilled demands. As a result, residents of Dehradun have been facing difficulties due to the unavailability of electric buses for reaching their destinations.
Smart City Kalyan Samiti secretary Gulshan Kumar stated that there are around 30 electric buses operating in the city, staffed by about 60 drivers. Currently, all 30 buses are non-operational as the drivers are boycotting their work.
Kumar alleged that one driver, who acts as a manager by misbehaving with other drivers, imposes his own driving rules and operates the buses after consuming alcohol. This matter has been raised with the relevant authorities, requesting the removal of this driver. However, Kumar claimed that instead of taking action, the authorities supported him and terminated the employment of other e-bus drivers, including Kumar himself.
He further added that a letter was sent to the concerned authorities regarding this issue, but no action has been taken yet. He emphasised that the work boycott will continue until their demands are fulfilled.
