Taking a strict stand on making and keeping Ganga along with its tributaries pollution-free, the district magistrate Prashant Arya declared that this was his administration’s top priority. While chairing a meeting of the district Ganga committee (Namami Gange) on Friday, he directed the district Tourism department to run a special campaign from September 20 to 30 during which the teams will ensure that the hotels and other commercial establishments, which are yet to be connected to sewage treatment plants (STP), get connected.

The DM also directed them to ensure that all houses in and around Gangotri Dham area are equipped with sewer facility.  “Time-bound and result- based action is necessary to speed up implementation of the Ganga Swachhta Mission,” he stressed.

Notably, 123 hotels with more than 20 rooms are registered with the Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board. Out of them, 104 hotels have already been connected to STP while the process of connecting the remaining ones is going on.
