State made tremendous progress in all fields in 25 years: Uniyal

The Parliamentary Affairs minister Subodh Uniyal initiated discussion on the achievements of the State in the last 25 years and the challenges faced by it on the first day of the special session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha on Monday.

He said that the State has made tremendous progress in all sectors in the last 25 years. Uniyal said when the State was created out of Uttar Pradesh in 2000, only five per cent of the villages were connected with roads and the railway connectivity was very limited. Similarly only 15 per cent of the villages were electrified. He said that apart from making tremendous progress in rail and road connectivity, many areas of the State are connected with air services now.   The minister said that the State government inked memoranda of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 3.50 lakh crores in during last year’s Global Investors Summit and projects worth Rs one lakh crore have been grounded so far. He said that the forest cover and biodiversity in the State have also increased along with the development in the State which is a major achievement. The minister said that the State Vidhan Sabha has passed 524 bills in the last 25 years which included Uniform Civil Code, anti-riot bill, anti-conversion bill and anti-copying bill. He expressed hope that the in-depth discussions will be held in the special session of VS which will pave the way for a development plan for the next 25 years.
