Traffic chaos at District hospital premises, patients suffer

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Patients and attendants have expressed concern over traffic congestion caused by four-wheelers (private) within the premises of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital. They alleged that attendants visiting the hospital with patients in four-wheelers enter the hospital building, often causing traffic congestion when vehicles clash, hindering emergency treatment. The hospital administration has assured prompt action to resolve the issue.

Patient Pooja Jha said that she frequently visits the district hospital’s outpatient department for check-ups. She said that, not for the first time, she has noticed significant traffic congestion within the hospital grounds. According to her, a major contributing factor is that attendants who bring patients to the outpatient or inpatient departments often drive their cars into the hospital premises instead of dropping them off outside. This practice leads to traffic congestion as vehicles clash with one another. Consequently, patients like herself, who arrive on a two-wheeler or by walking, experience delays in accessing treatment, despite having reached the hospital. Given this situation, she believed the hospital administration should act.

“I have frequently noticed traffic congestion in the hospital premises due to the collision of vehicles, particularly four-wheelers,” stated attendant Kartik Singh.

He expressed that this situation is quite alarming during emergencies and other critical circumstances. Given that the presence of private four-wheelers colliding with other vehicles can lead to traffic Jams, it is imperative for the administration to address this problem promptly.

Many other patients and attendants have shared similar concerns regarding this matter.

The principal medical superintendent (PMS) Dr Manu Jain to address the problems patients face due to traffic congestion, particularly in emergency situations, the administration will soon launch a new initiative. To alleviate the traffic congestion caused by four-wheelers within hospital grounds, the administration plans to create designated entry and exit points for these vehicles. The designated exit point for four-wheelers will be the back gate of the hospital. This arrangement aims to prevent collisions between vehicles at the entry and exit points, thereby reducing traffic congestion. Jain emphasised that this initiative will be implemented in the district hospital shortly.
