Trio from Punjab arrested for looting tourists near Valley of Flowers

The police have arrested three accused for allegedly looting and beating tourists at Ghangharia, the main halt for the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund-Lokpal. According to official sources, Ghaziabad resident Prem Kumar had informed the Govindghat police station on Friday that he had gone along with two male and two female friends to the Valley of Flowers. At about 12 AM on June 19, three unidentified men beat them with sticks and stones on the bridge across Lakshman Ganga at Ghangharia. The complainant said that the men had snatched cash and a mobile phone. Forcing the victims to share the code, they also transferred Rs 47,000 from their mobile phone to an unknown number. In addition to this, the three men also misbehaved with the women in the group and threatened them before searching them. The police lodged a case and began an investigation. Govindghat police station in-charge Vinod Rawat said that the three men arrested have been identified as Gurvinder Singh (30), Rajendra Singh (21) and Vansdeep Singh (20) all natives of Amritsar district in Punjab. The cash and other items they had stolen from the group of tourists was recovered from them by the police. The police are trying to check their past criminal history while also undertaking necessary procedure to present them before the court, Rawat added.
