To mark the silver jubilee of Uttarakhand’s statehood, initiatives are being taken to promote Garhwali, the native language of Garhwal hills, at the school level. With this objective in view, daily prayers are being held at Pavitra Leela Bal Vatika in Joshiyara. The manager of the school, Ajay Prakash Badola said that this initiative had been taken to instil in the children a sense of love and pride for their mother tongue. “The school will now conduct prayers in Garhwali three days a week, and children are also being encouraged to speak Garhwali in their conversations,” he added.

The principal, Vinita Bardaneh explained that children would be taught to speak Garhwali, along with English and Sanskrit, so that the new generation remains connected to their cultural roots. “Language is not just a medium of communication but an integral part of one’s identity and culture,” she observed.

The school management said that in the coming time, Garhwali songs, poetry recitation and drama presentations would also be organised in the school.
