PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi
Ahead the Char Dham Yatra, Uttarkashi police have adopted a strict stance to streamline traffic arrangements in Uttarkashi district. The yatra is scheduled to begin on April 19 with the portal opening of Gangotri and Yamunotri. Under the direction of the superintendent of police, Uttarkashi, Kamlesh Upadhyay, the traffic police Uttarkashi launched on Saturday a special campaign in the district headquarters as well as in Gyansu, Tambakhani, Sabji Mandi, Bhatwari taxi stand and Gangori, the main stops on the Gangotri Yatra route, and issued a strict warning against roadside encroachment and vehicles parked in no-parking areas. The police team told shopkeepers, local people and drivers through loudspeakers that building materials dumped on roadsides, encroachments of roads and uncontrolled parking along highways and other important roads should be removed immediately.
The police officials further informed the people that roadside encroachment and improper parking not just cause traffic jams, inconveniencing the pilgrims who are likely to come in their thousands, but also hinder emergency services.
The traffic police have clarified that this is only a warning campaign for now, but soon a wider campaign will be launched across the district and strict action will be taken against the violators of the rules. This will include confiscating construction materials dumped on roads, removing encroachments, issuing challans to vehicles parked in no-parking zones and towing away vehicles with cranes if necessary.
Meanwhile, the district administration has appealed to the people to remove encroachments and use designated parking spaces for parking so that traffic remains smooth during the yatra
