The Bharatiya Janata Party State president and Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt said that the Rs two lakh financial assistance provided in general to victims of attacks by leopards or bears is inadequate considering the cost of treatment. He said that he will raise this issue with chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and assured that he will strive to ensure a higher financial assistance in such cases.
Bhatt met the principal chief conservator of forests (head of forest force) Samir Sinha regarding the rise in human-wildlife conflict involving leopards and bears in the State. He asked all the forest and administrative officials to ensure all protective measures and swift action in case of information or the probability of any conflict situation. Forest officials across the State should remain alert, he said.
Bhatt further suggested that the authorities should maintain regular contact with all the newly elected Gram Pradhans, Van Panchayat Sarpanches and other local public representatives to raise public awareness in such difficult circumstances of human-wildlife conflict. Further, financial and all other necessary assistance to be provided without delay to the family members of any person who is killed in human-wildlife conflict.
