In view of the extremely cold weather conditions expected due to the La Nina effect during the winter season this year the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has started gearing itself up to meet the challenge of providing uninterrupted power supply in the State.
The managing director of the UPCL AK Yadav said that due to the potential conditions of La Nina, there is a possibility of extremely cold weather, moisture, fog, rain and snowfall in the State during winters which can affect the power distribution system. He said that all field officers have been directed to ensure necessary preparations to maintain uninterrupted power supply during winters.
Yadav said that the distribution sections of the corporation have been instructed to monitor the power network and undertake necessary technical works to strengthen the supply system against seasonal conditions. He said that the senior officers would undertake special inspections and ensure that all preventive maintenance works are undertaken for all 33/11 kV substations, feeders and transformers.
The MD said that all regional officers have been instructed to ensure that materials like transformers, trolleys, cables, conductors and insulators are available in sufficient quantities so that quick repairs and supply restoration can be done in any emergency. The corporation will also keep the disaster management and rapid response teams in an active mode.
The MD added that the regular monitoring of load management and line loss control will be done in view of the increasing demand for electricity in the winter season. He said that all officers have been instructed to send weekly reports on the status of preparations to the headquarters so that State-level monitoring can be ensured.
He cautioned that the general public should not go near open electrical wires or broken poles in case of rain, snowfall and storms and in case of any emergency they should immediately inform the nearest electricity office or call on the number 1912.
