Rawat directs Cooperative Banks to recover NPAs

Cooperatives minister Dhan Singh Rawat has directed the cooperative banks to start a special campaign to recover their Non-Performing Assets (NPAs). The minister chaired a review meeting of the Cooperative department on Thursday. In the meeting, Rawat said that the increasing NPAs of the State Cooperative Bank is a very serious issue which needs to be addressed. He suggested that the banks should soon convene a meeting with the account holders of major NPAs and initiate the process of recovery. 

In the meeting, the minister also gave detailed information about the action taken by the department in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry in the case involving 21 cooperative committees.  On a stern note, the minister directed that the inquiry should be completed within the stipulated time period and complete transparency should be ensured in the investigation process. 

The minister also reviewed the preparation of the cooperative fairs slated to be organised in Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Tehri districts. He directed the officers that all the preparations for these fairs should be completed on time and the fairs should be organised in a grand and arranged manner. The minister opined that these fairs will help in taking the achievements of the cooperative movement to the general public in an effective manner.

Rawat said that the Cooperatives department is the backbone of the economy and rural development system of the State. He said that the department should have a system of transparency, discipline and public faith. The meeting was attended by the registrar Cooperatives Meharban Singh Bisht, additional registrar Ira Upreti, Anand Shukla and others.
