V K Singh arrives in Silkyara to review ongoing rescue operation

Thursday, 16 November 2023 | PNS | UTTARKASHI

With the multi-agency rescue operation racing against time to rescue 40 workers remaining stuck in the collapsed stretches of the 4531 meter-long under-construction tunnel at Silkyara, the Union minister of state for road transport and highways V K Singh reached Silkyara to conduct an on-site inspection of the rescue operation. After reviewing the progress of the rescue work with the officers concerned, Singh said that their first priority is to extricate the stranded workers. Notably, on November 12, a stretch of the tunnel had collapsed, trapping about 40 labourers inside. The Union minister assured the near and dear ones of those trapped that the Centre and the State government are leaving no stone unturned to let the stranded workers come out safe and sound. “The central rescue agencies and those from the State have been working in tandem in the rescue operation. The Army has also been assisting them. This aside, we are taking assistance of the foreign agencies known for their expertise in such difficult rescue missions,” Singh said and added that all the stranded workers would be extricated soon.
