Woman killed in accident near Motichur flyover, DM orders probe

The district magistrate, Savin Bansal formed a committee to investigate the accident which occurred near Motichur flyover on Sunday night in which a woman died and over 15 others were injured. The accident had occurred when a tractor-trolley collided with a bus of Uttarakhand Roadways. Several people were travelling in the tractor-trolley and they were all devotees returning home after attending the Jhanda Mela.
According to police, the accident took place around 9:18 PM along the road between Raiwala and Haridwar. Soon after the collision, a CNG car coming from behind crashed into the damaged vehicles and caught fire.
Police said that the fire had possibly started after the CNG cylinder of the vehicle had exploded. The flames had quickly spread and damaged other vehicles, including a trolley and a car.
The deceased was identified as Kusum (30), a resident of Bhogpur in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. She died on the spot, crushed under the wheels of the trolley. At least 15 others were injured in the incident, police said.
Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. The injured were later rushed to a hospital in Haridwar.
The superintendent of police (SP), Rishikesh, Jaya Bhaluni said that the injured had been returning home in Bijnor after attending the Jhanda Mela in Dehradun when the mishap occurred. “Police have started a further investigation into the accident,” she added.
