With road accident fatalities continuing unabated in Nainital district, a scooter-borne youth was killed while his wife and two children were seriously injured when a speeding vehicle hit the scooter near Gorapadav market on the National Highway between Haldwani and Halduchaur on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Kannu Singh Bisht (30), a resident of Navadkheda Bagjala, Gaulapar.
According to those close to the family of the deceased, Kannu along with his family was heading towards his brother in law’s house in Kichha when the accident occurred.
With the help of the locals, the injured were rushed to Susheela Tiwari Government Hospital, Haldwani, where they are being treated.
The youth’s death sparked widespread anger among the locals who warned that they would resort to road-blockage if the administration did not step in and take required actions like repairing the potholed stretch to stop recurrence of such deaths.
