Considering the recent rise in the alleged love Jihad cases in various parts of the State, all senior/superintendents of police have been directed to take action against the accused under the anti-conversion law and other relevant acts, said the additional director general of police (crime, law and order) V Murugesan to The Pioneer.
In the past one month, various districts have witnessed cases where men belonging to a particular community allegedly concealed their religious identity to trap young Hindu women. Talking about the issue, the ADG said that the police department is aware of such issues and respective district police have been directed to take strict action against culprits in such issues. A recent such case was observed in Uttarkashi’s Purola nearly 10 days ago when two men named Ubaid Khan (24) and Jitendra Saini (23) were caught in an alleged attempt to elope with a local minor girl. The police booked them under Sections 363 (kidnapping) 366A (procuration of minor girl) of the Indian Penal Code and under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The locals alleged it to be a case of love Jihad which created tension in the area. Many people belonging to the Muslim community have reportedly left the area temporarily due to the intense protest by locals and many are keeping their shops shut in fear of protests by locals. However, local police have claimed that nobody left Purola due to tension between the communities. The police said that everything is under control in the area and the authorities are conducting the verification process of outsiders to ensure no anti-social elements are living there. Murugesan also added that the police have been directed to take appropriate action on the matter to maintain law and order in the area.
