Saturday, 10 August 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Congress party will try to corner the Pushkar Singh Dhami government on the issues of disaster management and law and order situation of the State during the Monsoon session of the State  assembly starting on August 21 at Gairsain in Chamoli district.

The leader of opposition (LoP) in the State Assembly, Yashpal Arya told The Pioneer that the three-day Assembly session is too short to address the burning issues facing the people of the State. He said that on the first day motion of condolences on the deceased members of the house will be discussed and thus only two days will be left for the constitutional and other businesses and discussions. He said that by convening a short session, the State government is only  fulfilling its constitutional obligation and is not interested  that discussions on the issues are held. He said that  the members have sent more than 500 questions and due to the short session a large number of these questions will not be taken up. Arya accused the State government of running away from the questions of opposition and said that the fact that only eight – nine sittings of the house are done in a year shows the nervousness of the government.

The LoP however added  that the Congress legislature party  will question the State  government on its failure to deal with the recent rain triggered disaster. He said different parts of the State are affected by disaster and incidents of cloud burst but the government machinery failed to give an early warning to the people.  Arya added that the Congress members will also raise  the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in the State. He said that the Congress will demand discussion on increasing atrocities  on the dalits. Arya demanded that the duration of the session should be extended.
