453 people fined in two days for boozing openly in Doon

The police caught 453 people for consuming alcohol at public places in the Dehradun district in the past two days. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that the police have intensified their crackdown on those consuming alcohol in public spaces, conducting a widespread operation across both urban and rural areas. Over the past two days, the police caught 453 people drinking outside liquor shops and inside vehicles parked in roadside spaces in rural as well as urban areas. These people were brought to local police stations for the offense and were charged with a penalty totalling Rs 1.3 lakh under the Police Act. They were given strict warnings against consuming alcohol in public spaces in the future, the SSP said. He stated that the police’s ongoing campaign aims to maintain order and curb illegal alcohol consumption in public areas. This initiative has been welcomed by the public as the authorities continue to work on keeping public spaces free from such disruptive activities, he added. Besides this, the police also detained 128 people for drinking at public places in Haridwar and collected a fine of Rs 33,800 on Thursday. The officials said that strict action will be taken against those who will be caught for drinking in public places again in future. If people find anybody drinking in public places, they can also inform the police so that the respective police in-charge can take strict action against such offenders, the officials added.
