Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that short, medium and long term plans will be prepared to mitigate migration from Uttarakhand. The suggestions of Uttarakhand natives living outside the State will also be considered to plan such initiatives, he said. The CM said this while chairing the meeting of the Rural Development and Migration Prevention Commission (RDMPC) at Bharadisain on Wednesday. The major reasons for the migration of the natives and steps needed for fulfilling the basic requirements to mitigate the migration were discussed in this meeting.
Dhami said that the government is serious regarding the problem of migration and is also working on various schemes to mitigate it. He averred that the government is working consistently to improve the basic infrastructure in the rural areas of the State. At the local level, efforts are being undertaken to link the youths to self employment through community development programmes. Special focus has been laid on self-employment during the past three years, with work underway to make such efforts more effective, he said.
The CM said that the State government is working towards the aim of developing Uttarakhand to a model State by 2025. The departments concerned are preparing concrete plans on the basis of suggestions received from the RDMPC. Further, official procedures are being simplified to ensure the maximisation of the number of people who benefit from the government’s public welfare schemes, Dhami said.
“Various schemes have been implemented by the government to mitigate migration from the rural areas of the State. Basic facilities are being developed in the villages and new employment opportunities are being created in such areas. We are also attempting to connect the Uttarakhand natives living across India and abroad to these efforts. The government has received some good suggestions from migrant Uttarakhandis to mitigate migration and we will execute these at the ground level,” the CM said.
RDMPC members talked about preparing short, medium and long term plans for mitigating migration with the assistance of the departments concerned. During the discussion on the reasons for migration of the natives from the mountainous regions, they stressed upon meeting the basic requirements and ensuring effective implementation of the government schemes. Chief secretary Radha Raturi, RDMPC vice chairman Sharad Singh Negi and other officials were also present in the meeting.
