Include other contractual workers in the proposed ‘solution’ on UPNL workers’ demands: Godiyal

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal has demanded that the State government should include all the contractual and work charge workers and others working in different government departments in the ambit of its promised solution on the demands of Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) workers.
In a statement on Monday, the PCC president said that the UPNL workers who were demanding their regularisation of services and were on a strike for many days were assured by the government that their demands will be accepted and they will be paid similar wages for similar work. The government gave the assurance in a meeting with the delegation of the workers following which the UPNL workers withdrew their agitation.
Godiyal said that the State government has not come out with the proposed solution on the demands of the UPNL workers and has not yet released the necessary government order (GO) on the issue. He said that the government should immediately release the GO on the issue of the UPNL workers. Godiyal said that there are a large number of other contractual workers working in the departments such as Education, PWD, Forest, Agriculture and power corporations who like UPNL workers are discharging their duties from many years.
Similarly there are PRD workers, homeguards and the workers working with the outsourcing agencies. Godiyal said that it is high time that the government should include the above-mentioned workers in its proposed solution on the demands of the UPNL workers. He said that if these workers are not included in the proposed GO, they in all likelihood will knock at the doors of the courts. Godiyal said that in the case of UPNL workers the court has clearly stated that equal pay should be given for equal work.
