Dehradun police and Special Task Force (STF) arrested an absconding accused in the gangster Vikram Sharma murder case, who was carrying a bounty of Rs one lakh, on Wednesday. The accused, Yashraj Singh, was arrested by a joint police team from Saharanpur upon receiving secret information, said the superintendent of police (city) Pramod Kumar. Earlier, two of the accused were arrested in the case-Mohit alias Akshat Thakur and Rajkumar Singh. Police said that they were not directly involved in the murder while Yashraj was involved directly.
Notably, Vikram Sharma had been shot dead on February 13 outside a gym in silver city area on Rajpur Road in Dehradun. Police had earlier informed that one of the accused, Ankit Verma, had carried out a recognisance for months regarding Sharma’s movements.
After the murder, a case was registered at Dalanwala police station. During investigation, police found that criminals from Jharkhand were involved in the crime.
The SP city, Kumar had said that six more accused were identified and all were absconding. The court had issued arrest warrants and property attachment warrants against them.
During questioning, Yashraj is said to have told police that he worked in supply business at Tatanagar railway station. “The group of which Yashraj is a member had earlier tried to attack Sharma in NOIDA and Delhi, but failed,” informed an officer. The interrogation further revealed that the gang had then made a fresh plan to kill him in Dehradun after learning that he used to visit a gym alone in the morning.
“Yashraj helped the gang by arranging money for travel, hotel stay, vehicles and other expenses through online payments,” said SP, city, Kumar, adding that after the murder, Yashraj had fled to West Bengal to evade arrest. “He recently came to Haridwar and from there went to Saharanpur to meet lawyers, where police arrested him. Further investigation in the case is continuing,” he stated.
