RaGa’s Uttarakhand tour to prepare Congress for battle of VS elections of 2027

The upcoming two day Uttarakhand visit of leader of opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi will bring the Congress party firmly into the election mode for the crucial battle of Vidhan Sabha elections of the State in 2027. Gandhi will address a rally in Almora on June 4 and on the same day he will attend a conclave of ex-servicemen in Pauri. On June 5, he will interact with the party leaders, workers and office bearers in Dehradun. Pertinently, the LoP in Lok Sabha is visiting the State for the first time since 2021. Gandhi skipped travelling to Uttarakhand during the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2022 and the Lok Sabha elections of 2024. The experts are of the opinion that the top leadership of Congress party is hopeful of a revival of fortunes of the party in the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2027. It believes that the party will benefit from a strong anti-incumbency in the State where the BJP has been ruling since 2017.
In Almora, the heartland of Kumaun region of the State, Gandhi is expected to attack the Dhami government for its failure to provide employment, rising inflation and its policies. The party considers Kumaun region comprising Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, Almora, Pithoragarh and Champawat districts as conducive for revival of its electoral fortunes. In the Vidhan Sabha elections- 2022, the Congress candidates won 11 out of 29 seats in Kumaun region. This performance was much better than the performance of the party in Garhwal region. The leader of opposition in Vidhan Sabha Yashpal Arya, former chief minister Harish Rawat, former Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara, the deputy leader of Congress legislature party Bhuwan Kapdi, MLAs Tilak Raj Behed, Harish Dhami and Sumit Hridayesh have been assigned the task of making the Almora rally of Rahul Gandhi a success.
After addressing the rally in Almora, Gandhi will travel to Pauri where he will attend a conclave of ex-servicemen. In this conclave, he is likely to take up the issue of Agniveers. By taking up the issue, the Congress party wants to give a message to the ex-servicemen community which has a considerable clout in the State politics due to their sheer number.
