Corbett visitors land in jail after resort brawl; 3 held

A dispute involving tourists, a safari jeep driver and a resort operator escalated into a police case, resulting in the arrest of three persons. A separate case has also been registered over alleged misbehaviour with a woman sub-inspector and obstruction of government duty.

According to police, Mukesh Joshi, owner of a resort in Teda village, lodged a complaint stating that two tourists who had booked their stay through MakeMyTrip arrived at the resort on June 24. The tourists were identified as Avinash Kumar, a resident of Sector-22, Chandigarh and Komal Sharma, a resident of Dilshad Extension, Sahibabad (Ghaziabad).

In his complaint, Joshi stated that the tourists went on a Corbett jungle safari during the day in a safari jeep and returned to the resort at around 6 PM.  He also said that the jeep driver, Shamshad, a resident of Bhawaniganj, Ramnagar.

As per the complaint, the driver refused to show his Aadhaar card.  This was allegedly followed by arguments and assault.

The complainant further alleged that when the police team, including woman sub-inspector Rajkumari, had arrived, the accused behaved with the officers improperly.

Based on the complaint filed by Mukesh Joshi, police registered a case under Sections 115(2), 351(3), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and arrested all three accused.

In addition, a separate case was registered on the complaint of Rajkumari against Avinash Kumar for allegedly obstructing government work and misbehaving with a public servant.

Ramnagar police station in-charge, Sushil Kumar said that a fair and impartial investigation is underway. “Police are currently probing both cases,” he added.
