Departments to discuss drug abuse and rehabilitation
A meeting in coordination with various departments of Uttarakhand will be conducted on Wednesday in Dehradun taking into account the increasing substance abuse among minors in the State.
As per the agenda of the meeting provided by Uttarakhand Child Protection Committee, the state level officials of several departments and organisations will discuss restricting the supply of drugs among minors in the State besides providing treatment and rehabilitation to those children who are already addicted to substance abuse. Moreover, the allocation of two percent cess by the excise department to handle the drug abuse cases are also among the major points of the agenda. The head of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Usha Negi has stated earlier that after discussing the issue of proper allocation of the cess with the officials concerned in the meeting, the commission is planning to approach the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to set up a prohibition cell to ensure its proper allocation. The departments attending the meeting includes State Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department, Police department, health department, education department, excise department and anti-narcotics cell.
